Astatine-211 applied in thyroid cure is financially much more effective than radioactive Iodine-131. Astatine emits only alpha-particles which are very energetic on short distances and, having a short free path length, do not affect on other glands such as parathyroid. The radiobiological effect of alpha-particles is 2/8 times stronger than that of beta-particles emitted by iodine-131. So therapeutically astatine is more affective. Meanwhile rhodanides-ions create a strong complex with astatine effectively removing it from the organism.
